I Don’t Have Time To Game!!! (Visual Novels For the Modern Working Gamer)

VISUAL NOVELS FOR THE BUSY MODERN DAY GAMER

I may sit in front of my computer but my schedule only allows for a certain time frame for me to sit down and game.

Yuta Kajima from My Forged Wedding

Let’s face it, in modern times we sometimes can’t sit down and play a game too long because we’re running after kids, working from our desks, working from home, or running around clinics. Sometimes our work projects need our attention, even if we want to game just a little, and for me, since I like casual games it’s a bit hard to play long games when your work environment can go from 0 to 200 in a second.

Back when I first got into visual novels, I was fairly lucky to have it available to me on my cellphone, but now that I’m working from home–I may sit in front of my computer but my schedule only allows for a certain time frame for me to sit down and game.

Let’s chat a bit about games that you can play when you’re short on time, but still want a good story and game play.

So in this blog, I’m gonna talk about visual novels that’s good with narrative, story, and time for the busy gamer life. Grab your Nintendo Switches, PSVitas, Cell Phones, or plop down in front of your computer and split the screen. Let’s chat a bit about games that you can play when you’re short on time, but still want a good story and game play.

These Nights in Cairo

These Nights in Cairo is a wonderful and perfectly easy game to complete all in one work shift for anyone who is working at home. This game takes us back in time to Cairo where you work as an archaeologist, however, being a woman in the field you do get quit a bit of push back from your father. However, Margaret is capable and strong willed all on her own and can take care of herself and she’s spitfire, she’s a wonderful MC, and knows exactly what she wants out of her life.

These Nights in Cairo

I reviewed this game awhile back and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants an amazing story and is short on time. These Nights in Cairo is a mix of The Mummy and Tomb Raider as you work to save the world, fall in love, or come out on top as a Goddess in the end.

Jessie Maye from Huniepop

The infamous Huniepop, yes, this game is another easily accomplish-able game that can be finished in an entire work shift. What’s interesting about Huniepop is that it is a mix of both puzzle game, visual novel, and hentai–so if you like to see some smexy times with either being able to play as male or female, this is your game. FYI, this is a game that individuals who work from home can play while their office door is shut and the kids are away for the moment.

Nikki-Anne Marie from Huniepop

While Huniepop has some spin-offs, I prefer the original game and the fact that you can make love to a goddess and also… an alien, LMAO. This game is voiced, so I do recommend turning down the volume or having your headphones on when the bedroom tango occurs.

When it comes to more LGBTQ friendly games, Lovestruck takes the lead with offering a plethora of genres and romances to read from.

Havenfall is for Lovers

I have a love and hate relationship with Voltage Inc and Voltage Inc USA, but they were the first company that introduced me to mobile visual novel games. When it comes to more LGBTQ friendly games, Lovestruck takes the lead with offering a plethora of genres and romances to read from. Each game route giving an ample amount of content and stimulating dialogue between the characters, while the game routes can have 15 chapters, each chapter is easily accomplished within the working day.

Reigning Passions

Whether you are out and about in the hospital, waiting in line at the grocery store, or you can’t have something up on your computer so you have your ipad open instead. Lovestruck is an app that can easily be played anywhere and anytime, and can be finished at any pace depending on the gamer. I do have to state, that this app does have that ‘Love Choice’ thing which is ridiculous, so what that is is that you have to pay MONEY to get premium answers to sexier or romantic scenes. So be vigilant about your money in this game, as it can bust the bank.

This app comes from game developer OKKO, which used to work with Arithmetic way back yonder in the early years until they split off on their own and created their own app.

Decoding Desire

I’ve talked in a previous review about this app, and I’m just going to talk about it again in the same manner. This app comes from game developer OKKO, which used to work with Arithmetic way back yonder in the early years until they split off on their own and created their own app. A little bit of info on OKKO and their history, when I first came onto the scene for otome’s I had heard there were free games and also paid games.

One of the major ‘freemium’ games besides NTT SOLMARE was Arithmetic/Okko at the time, while I was never a fan of the free games I heard plenty of good things about Arithmetic/OKKO and the games they created. However, due to the ‘otome Armageddon’ that caused a serious rift between mobile gamers of these lovely games, we saw a mass downsizing of games and also well-known companies disappearing into the void.

I was a bit ambivalent to pursue this app due to the issues I had with Story Jar from NTT SOLMARE

Wanted Son-In-Law

At a point in time Arithmetic and Okko were working with one another before the Armageddon occurred, however, from my understanding after looking at a few blogs it was stated that OKKO separated from Arithmetic and ventured out on their own, creating the standalone app, ‘Honey Magazine.’

I was a bit ambivalent to pursue this app due to the issues I had with Story Jar from NTT SOLMARE, and I didn’t want to be drawn into another haphazard relationship of spending oodles of moolah to get a good ending. However, Honey Magazine took the concept of mechanics of Story Jar’s horrifically money scheming ways and reinvented it into an enjoyable and more engaging experience for all gamers.

Let me explain, similar to Story Jar, in the Honey Magazine, you can earn ‘Honey Gems’ per chapter or side story you read, you get a baseline of 3 tickets, and the tickets replenish every few hours. Now, how has Honey Magazine been more awesome and favorable compared to Story Jar?

Let me reiterate that, your answers don’t penalize your happy ending, and you don’t need to pay for premium answers to have a HEA.

Unscripted Romance

They offer a wide variety of ‘Unlimited Reading’ stories for those of us who can’t afford to buy tickets or ‘honey stones,’ these unlimited stories can be of one character or multiple, and you can earn up to 12-15 stones per chapter read in these stories. Also, in the stories, it’s not a big deal if you don’t choose the ‘premium’ answer as it’s more like a story you can purchase with your honey stones if you want to re-read it in the future.

However, I will state this, gamers I suggest saving your honey stones only for the CGs and the epilogue endings (so you can get some intimate time with your guy), as some of the considered ‘premium’ answers are just more ‘romantic’ scenes with your guy but not necessary for your love to progress; it’s an option, just know that.

Also, it doesn’t matter what answer you choose, as OKKO has given you the liberty to play and answer to what you believe is the best choice. Let me reiterate that, your answers don’t penalize your happy ending, and you don’t need to pay for premium answers to have a HEA.

YA HEAR THAT NTT SOLMARE AND VOLTAGE LOVE CHOICE!?

My Sweet Marriage Proposal

The Honey Magazine app is an incredible find, and the game creators are not only amazing people but they engage their fans on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. What more? They hold fanart and writing contests so that you as the gamer get to write or draw out a scene for one (or many) husbands from their app and it can become a story on the app itself. They’re a small company, but I highly recommend you guys check them out and support them, it’s an amazing team and the app is incredible!

You can easily play the chapters in any route, any time, and anywhere from your cell phone or ipad and not have to worry if something stops you from reading. The game is AI for the game is pretty good at recognizing when you’ve lost internet and will restart your chapter free of charge and not tickets being consumed.

“The narrative is enticing and the pace of the scenes coming at you are quick, mind boggling, and with both paranormal and psychological thrills occurring.

Jisei

For all the Nintendo Switch Fans, Jisei, was just recently released earlier in the month and it is a fast paced visual novel thriller that does end on a cliff-hanger. However, the narrative is enticing and the pace of the scenes coming at you are quick, mind boggling, and with both paranormal and psychological thrills occurring. The next chapter of the series is hopefully to be out towards the end of the year, but if you can’t wait, you can always buy the chapters on STEAM and complete the game there.

Make choices that affect the narrative and experience several different endings in this blood-red interactive movie!

I started getting into these interactive movie games on my Switch as of recent, and I can safely say that I am impressed with how these games are going. She Sees Red is another thriller game that CHOICES MATTER and is a short game play to accomplish in a work sitting, playable on either Switch or Steam, this is a new type of story rich novel that takes the gamer into a live action movie setting. It’s easy to drown in the narrative and forget that you are playing a game, be critical with your decisions, and be careful of your actions.

STORY

Someone has killed several people at a popular nightclub. A lone detective has been assigned to the case, following every clue … wherever it may lead. In this provocative interactive thriller, NOTHING is as it seems!

Make choices. Affect change. Experience multiple endings and inhabit the mind of a killer in She Sees Red.

– Gripping, mature non-linear narrative.
– Story elements can be experienced by making meaningful choices along the way.
– Four possible endings!
– Professional actors, editing, lighting, and sound design.

I recommend this game to any horror fan who wants to have some fun while working, or someone who needs a game to wake them up from their boring work day.

Stigmatized Property is a point and click game of horror filled loveliness that I cannot help but be impressed with. The game is extremely short and fast paced, with all the jump scares and disturbing scenes, Stigmatize Property really knows how to get under your skin in such a short period of time. Game creator Chilla Arts has a library of similar games with the same flair as this one, but you can be certain that you can finish this game in less than 30 mins.

I recommend this game to any horror fan who wants to have some fun while working, or someone who needs a game to wake them up from their boring work day. If you’re looking for a fun time in a short amount of time with a visual novel that with some terror look no further than this game.
