Tales from the Nook: Can I get Some Jam for my Eyeball Sandwich?

giphy (57)

As we roll into August, the dark and horror gamer part of myself starts to peek out from the shadows. Peering out to see if it’s her time to parade around the blog and other social media outlets to speak about dark fairytales, creepy characters, terrifying novels, and nightmare fuel games. Welcome to the side of Gray’s Otome and Visual Novel Corner that focuses on both VN and Cozy Nook aspects of Gray’s Otome & VN Corner.

Where suspense, thrillers, and horror games take over. While some otome games meet the creepy aspect of the horror criteria, it’s rare… depending on what game you’ve gotten into your hands. Before we proceeded, I’d like to say thanks to Kelly from Another Book in the Wall Blog for making these Halloween themed prompts!

Now…

Reader beware, these visual novels aren’t for those who want romance flair, these are for those who dare to face their darkest nightmares.

Oh, I’ve been waiting for this prompt to come up ever since I started this series in Gray’s Otome and Visual Novel Corner. As someone who loves playing different types of media and reading countless novels (and many more still piling up LMAO), there’s plenty of snacks and drinks that accompany my campaigns against the perils of evil, simulations, and fictional characters of the crypt. While as of late you can actually get a hold of these Halloween treats easily compared to when I was a kid, these delectably scrumptious treats are an ode to my childhood and also my whirlwind teen years.

So let’s get those sunglasses on and stoke the fireplace as we conjure up some goodies to snack on as we chat about favorite treats and snacks of a Game Warrior and Book Dragon. Raise them goblets up witches/wizards~!

Inside the witchy kitchen, when the autumn season rolls around, I tend to bake a lot of items that have sugar and spice in it. While most of the items I make are low carb and high fat, they do have the fully-loaded recipes of these on Pinterest, but I’m just going to give the ones that I’ve been following for the past few years since I made the switch to a ketogenic/LC lifestyle. When the leaves change and the wind starts to get a little nippier for us here on the west coast, I tend to start working on the recipes that involve using pumpkins, squash, apples, zucchini, and cranberries.

From the Peace Love and Low Carb blog, I present to you one of the easiest and yummy LC/Keto treats I love having during the spooky season. No need for baking, hassles of trying to scrounge for lots of ingredients, this recipe is simple and yummy AF. Pumpkin cheesecake has always been something I loved eating during this season, and from this witch’s kitchen, this is a must-have inside the fridge. It’s best to make a lot of it because it’ll go fast if you have a growing teenage boy in the house and a younger brother who hunts for sweets in the middle of the night…

This is a go-to treat for me when I’m in for a long night of working at the computer or need a break from staring at a screen for too long. It’s a snack that is filling, delicious, and hits the spot when you’re craving something to curb that sugar kick that usually happens during the ’ember’ months. Also, no staining of the fingers and no goop going onto the keyboard.

Now this one you’ll more than likely want to freeze these morsels to stop them from becoming a messy problem as you read or game. Keto Fat bombs can be either savory or sweet, depending on what kind of mood you’re having. and during this season, I like having butterbeer or butterscotch flavored keto bombs.  However, do as you please as everyone will love different variations, in my kitchen, it happens to be butterscotch, butter beer, pumpkin spice, sea salted caramel, or graveyard dirt flavors.

I usually use KIMINSPIRED DIY‘s recipe as a base and then modify the flavors accordingly, and then I freeze the suckers so they’re easy to pop into your hands or mouth when you need a quick snack when you’re reading or gaming.

In the haunted mansion (fridge), there’s a couple of ghostly treats I make huge batches of when the season rolls around. Marshmallow ghosts and graveyard brownies are the fastest sell out in the house, and I think it’s because I have worms sticking out of the brownies besides fluffy cream ghosts sitting on top of the grave dirt. Whatever the case may be, when the little vampires, werewolves, and ghosts of the family traipse through the house during the midnight hour, these decadent sweets are usually something that can ease their hunger at night. It just means more work for me because I have to make more stock LMAO!

Marshmallows23

A ghostly addition to the snack mix, Marshmallow Ghosts, now I know the picture doesn’t show that but you can cookie cut these marshmallows into spoopy creations. The recipe I use is from Ketodietapp.com and the recipe is easy to follow and use to any advantage. I prefer to use these marshmallow goodies for hot cocoa during November and December, and also making black cats and ghosts for quick treats to eat on the go for the family.

A simple twist on a recipe, all you need is some chocolate and food dye to replicate a few cute or sinister ideas on this treat to make it a treat to terrify and indulge in.

Hungry goblins and spooks cannot resist this one, and I can’t either. I make a keto version of this adorable brownie ghost peeps for my family, but I modified it from this recipe from Betty Crocker. It’s a fun treat to have in stock during the holidays, and it’s filling when you make the keto version, so to make the keto version you’ll need the Marshmellow Ghost recipe from above, this Keto Butter Cream Frosting Recipe, and Keto Brownie recipe

Welcome to the Vampire bar, where I only have a limited amount of drinks that don’t have cherry syrup or any red berry syrups at this moment. However, the drinks I do have below are pretty autumn friendly and kid friendly, and you can spice up the butter beer one with a shot of alcohol of your choice to make it more adult oriented. I would say you could do a Bloody Shirley, but that requires a bit of sugar and crushed berries to get, but I can explain that one in a different blog. For now, let’s talk about these easy to make and yummy to drink concoctions below.

My number one favorite drink, is Butter Beer from the Harry Potter universe, as this drink brings back childhood nostalgia and practically helps add oil to the burning flame of Halloween bonanza. While you can definitely purchase a bottle of butter beer soda at local candy stores nowadays, nothing beats making it in the kitchen, also–it makes for an awesome milkshake too! I follow this recipe Jambo, but I don’t feel you need to necessarily purchase their CBD butter to get the same taste.

Lastly, I love making Turmeric Tea Lattes, while the above is the base mixture I use, you can remove honey and use sucralose or monk fruit in replacement with the turmeric instead. Also, I rarely drink this base with water, but it’s optional, but I pour in steamed coconut milk or almond milk to the mix. Overall, this is a good drink all year round besides having it just for the autumn season, turmeric is good for inflammation and also helps aid in fighting colds!

This was a bit of a shorter blog than my usual ones, but that’s alright, given this one is about the yummy foods I snack on during the spooky season. While these are my top choices, there are a few others I have yet to mention, but that can be another blog for another time during the holidays to come. Do you have any autumn treats, sweets, and drinks you love having while gaming and reading? Let me know in the comments or link me to your favorite holiday foods!

As always, thanks for stopping by in my corner of the blogosphere, and see you on the gaming side~!
